"Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand.” Chinese Proverb
The Chinese Proverb listed above is a direct reflection of my philosophy on how children learn. Developmentally appropriate practice has proven that children learn best when learning is based on a hands-on approach that is centered on their individual interests and needs. Effective learning occurs when teachers support learning by providing teacher directed learning experiences with many opportunities for children to practice introduced skills at a variety of challenge levels, during self-initiated activities.
Sondi this is a great quote. It is one I have written down as well. I think it is a philosophy that many of us teach by. When I speak to perspective parents I talk to them about this learning environment that is created in the classroom and the importance of creating a safe place where children are able to explore. At our school we have a balanced curriculum that incorporates teacher instructional learning and hands on learning as well.
ReplyDeleteSondi,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your quote. This is why I do not spend a lot of time talking when I introduce a new concept. Also, I make sure that I incorporate some kind of hands on activity. If not, I will lose all of my ESE, ELL, and kinestetic learners. Allowing these students as well as the others to actually feel or touch objects keep them engaged and interested in learning.
Hi Sondi,
ReplyDeleteI love the quote. There is a lot of truth to this proverb. I think I will put this on a poster board so my class will always remember this.
Dear Sondi,
ReplyDeleteThank you for a great semester. I have learned a lot from you and feel that you are working hard to make sure that children get the best education possible. I want to wish you the best of luck.
