To complete this assignment, I chose to explore the European Early Childhood Education Research Association (EECERA). The website publishes an early childhood journal that focuses on current research and all of the information in the journal is noteworthy. In reviewing past journals, it appears that current research topics include scaffolding learning, conducting research with young children, toddler language development, and many others. I was disappointed that accessing the full articles required becoming a member or paying for the article.
Addtionally, the website has several special interest groups, which include,
•Birth to Three
•Equity and Respect for Diversity
•Leadership and Integration
•Leadership Mentoring for Early Years Services
•Learning and Participation
•Mathematics Birth to Eight Years
•Outdoor Play and Learning
•Professionalism in Early Childhood Education and Care
•Transitions (EECERA, 2010)
The website also posted a link to the Education Arena, which included additional article, webinars, and other resources on current issues and trends in early childhood education and professional development. Overall, it appears that if one were choose to become a member of the website, they would have access to a plethora of useful and valuable information. Unfortunately, becomeing a member was not something I am willing to do.

Sondi,
ReplyDeleteI had the same opinion of this website. For a price, you can obtain some really good information. I don't like "for a price" though! Did you know that the articles are available in
the Walden library? They have to be over 1 year old to download.
Sondi,
ReplyDeleteI was interested in subscribing to the journal until I saw the price. I would like to be able to keep up with what is going on in other parts of our world in Early Childhood. Its good to network because we can learn some things from others.
Sondi,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your disappointment about putting a price on keeping up to date with the latest research information about early childhood education. I would like to join professional organizations around the world but most of the memberships can be fairly high and in our economy it is not always possible for everyone to join. I did think the website had interesting topics but did not choose it for the same reason you describe. Reading the articles came with a membership price and even though I would have liked to explore some of the topics further, I was unable.
Sondi,
ReplyDeleteI agree, there were two of the links that you had to register to see the research and both had fees! I had a difficult time trying to explain the links when I could not view the research. I suppose this is all a part of the learning experience.

I did not review this website but it seems that most that have were not happy with having to pay to receive articles. It is nice to know that we can retrieve them from the Walden library though.
